You were directed to this page by your Cambridge Floors team member because getting a new floor installed can be a stressful process. Oftentimes, depending on the size of the project, certain prep work is required before our installer can begin work.

How to Prepare for the Installation of your New Floor

We understand that installing new flooring is an important investment in your home, and we are committed to providing you with a seamless and satisfactory experience. This installation guide will help you understand the process, including potential damages, what to expect, and unforeseen issues that may arise during the installation.

Pre-Installation Preparation:

  • Clear the Area: Before our installation team arrives, please ensure that the installation area is clear of any furniture, appliances, and personal belongings. Our team is able to move certain items, however any furniture manipulation, floor removals and leveling must be under the scope of work discussed in the quote to properly prepare both the client (you) and our contractors are aware of the nature of the pre-installation prep
  • Subfloor Evaluation: Our team will evaluate the condition of your subfloor to ensure it is suitable for the new flooring. If any repairs or adjustments are needed, we will inform you before proceeding.
  • Pets and their care: Cambridge Floors requests that you make arrangements to keep your beloved pets in a safe and secure area away from the installation site during the flooring process. This is crucial in ensuring the safety of both your pets and our installers.

Potential Damages:

  • Baseboards and Trim: During the installation process, it may be necessary to remove baseboards and trim. While we take utmost care, there is a slight possibility of minor damages or scratches. We recommend keeping extra matching materials on hand for any required touch-ups.
  • Existing Flooring: If you have existing flooring that needs to be removed, there may be some damage to the subfloor underneath. We will do our best to minimize any potential damages, but please be aware that some repairs may be required after the removal.
  • Walls and Paint: Occasionally, slight scuffs or marks may occur on the walls during the flooring installation. We suggest having touch-up paint available to address any minor damages that may occur.

What to Expect:

  • Noise and Dust: Flooring installation involves cutting, sawing, and other processes that can generate noise and dust. Our team will take necessary measures to minimize the impact, such as using dust containment systems and working efficiently to complete the installation promptly.
  • Odor: Some flooring materials, such as certain types of adhesives or finishes, may emit temporary odors during and immediately after installation. Proper ventilation is advised to help dissipate any odors quickly.
  • Access Restrictions: During the installation, there may be limited access to certain areas of your home. We kindly request your cooperation and understanding during this time.

Unforeseen Issues:

  • Subfloor Problems: Occasionally, unforeseen issues with the subfloor may arise, such as unevenness, moisture-related concerns, or structural problems. If such issues are discovered, our team will inform you immediately and provide recommendations for necessary repairs or adjustments. These unforeseen issues however may create a cost increase that will be discussed by our team before going forward to ensure staying within your budget but also guaranteeing the quality of the installation and the flooring itself.
  • Material Availability: In rare cases, due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, there may be delays in material delivery or certain products becoming unavailable. Should this occur, we will communicate promptly with you to discuss alternative options or revised timelines.
