Engineered Hardwood

Through a unique combination of engineering, construction and design disciplines and expertise.

The Perfect Blend of Luxury and Cost Efficiency

Have the look and feel of hardwood at a fraction of the cost. Engineered hardwood has the veneer of hardwood and then plywood beneath, adding additional durability without scarifying the warmth and elegance of hardwood. Perfect for the quieter lifestyle in the lower mainland.

Another Advantage of Engineered Wood Floors Over Hardwood: Pre-Finished Engineered Wood Floors

Engineered wood floors feature a top layer that comes pre-finished, meaning it's already sanded and sealed. This allows immediate use after installation. In contrast, unfinished solid hardwood requires sealing and a waiting period before it can be used.
Please note: there is pre-finished, solid hardwood is also available within store

Engineered Wood Flooring Can Be Sanded but Do So With Caution

The advantage of engineered wood flooring versus laminate is that engineered wood can be sanded after scratches and dings develop. However, unlike hardwood due to the veneer applied above the plywood, there is a limit to the amount of times you can sand and refinish engineered hardwood floors. Engineered hardwood veneers ranges from 1.2mm to 4mm.

cambridge Floors recommends that when deciding to refinish your engineered hardwood to pick someone experience in the process. Hardwood allows for a larger margin of error, something that engineered hardwood cannot provide. Why is that?

Very Limited Margin for Sanding– Engineered flooring due to the mm thick veneer, cannot be sanded to the extent that hardwood floors can. Depending on the thickness of the veneer, this number can range from one to three times.

Preventing the Destruction of Your Floors– When deciding between hardwood floors and engineered hardwood, you choose engineered flooring for its benefits on price and durability, however, a major aspect in your decision was the look of hardwood. Sanding is the thin removal of a layer of your floors. This is done to refinish, remove scratches, and shine your floors. We understand the budgets you may feel constrained by, but with engineered hardwood's low margin of error, over sanding can create gouges within your floors and reveal plywood beneath. This comprises the look and durability of your engineered hardwood and the damaged floorboards to be replaced. This then forces you to find a match (which is hard to do so with older stains of floors) or replace the entire floor.

All of this can be avoided by choosing Cambridge Floors, with a team of installers that do engineered hardwood restoration as a career and without the fear and labour involved with DIY'ing your floors.
